Registered Psychotherapist
Amelia Dowell is a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a specialization in Behavioural Science from McGill University and a Master of Arts degree in Counselling Psychology from the University of Ottawa.
Amelia has experience working with a diverse population including adolescents and adults. She provides bilingual counselling services, in both English and French, to individuals who are experiencing symptoms of anxiety, and depression, and to those who are going through relationship issues, self-esteem issues, and feelings of guilt and shame. Amelia also provides counselling to individuals going through life transitions. She especially enjoys helping women navigate through their prenatal, pregnancy and postpartum journeys, as well as supporting them through the social and emotional difficulties associated with prenatal and postpartum health.
Amelia also has a particular interest in sports psychology and helps individuals develop practical strategies to optimize their performance, their well-being and their self-confidence.
Amelia’s practice relies on an eclectic approach, which includes Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Interventions, Interpersonal Therapy, and Solution Focused Brief Therapy and is anchored in a collaborative, person-centred and strength-based approach. She has experience facilitating groups in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Mindfulness-Based Interventions with individuals with social anxiety disorder.
Amelia places a strong emphasis on creating a safe and welcoming environment for her clients where they can communicate their needs and challenges in a non-judgmental place.
Amelia provides individual therapy for adults (18+).
